FinOps X 2023

The session will be a deep dive into where the existing discipline of ITAM and the (relatively) new discipline of FinOps intersect.  The intent will be to illustrate to the audience that even if you have reached the “run” phase in all aspects of the FinOps Framework as it relates to your cloud infrastructure, there are still potentially significant cost savings (or cost avoidance) that can be achieved by incorporating ITAM data into the FinOps process.  Real-world examples will be shared (with anonymized customers and vendors) that will illustrate that a FinOps tool isolated from ITAM information can make poor financial decisions that can actually create more costs than they save.  The collaborative steps that can (and should) be taken between FinOps and ITAM practitioners will be described, with a focus on how to align the two disciplines’ operating frameworks.
